Use Your Voice

Posted by Eddie on the 22nd May, 2008

Peepz who know me will know I’m into making music. Peepz who know me will also know I am a wicked-big Nine Inch Nails fanboy. I may have let this slip before.

LatelyTrent Reznor (aka NIN) has been releasing all his songs in multi-track format, has invited his fans to remix them and dedicated a section on his site to the results.

Remixing isn’t really my bag, but I just had to do something so I’ve completely recreated the track 19 Ghosts III using only my voice. You can listen to it here. Go; listen, rate, comment! (And while you’re there listen to some of the other wierd and wonderful remixes). It was an interesting excercise and I learnt a lot from disecting a NIN tune on such a minute level.

Also, in new astounding NIN news, he’s released his latest album, The Slip, and it’s available from his website for free! “Thank you for your continued and loyal support over the years – this one’s on me,” he says. Whatta-guy!

If you’d like to hear the original track 19 Ghosts III, go and buy it! Two hours of great music, for only $5US. Wholly instrumental, Ghosts is the soundtrack to a movie that never existed. Another interesting interactive idea Trent has started is to ask his fans to create the video to Ghosts – interpreting the audio into visuals – and he’s done a deal with Youtube and started an online film festival. I’m currently creating my own film-clip where the song will be performed entirely by sock puppets.

Why do I do all this? Partly ’cause it’s a great idea and partly because of my hopes that one day Trent himself will watch it, realise that we are kindred spirits, drop his tour, fly to Australia and we’ll dramatically run towards each other across the tarmac. From here on the fantasy gets a bit wierd. Inappropriate touching is involved.

And finally, to pre-empt your comments; screw you, this is my blog and I can be as fanboy as I like.
